Leroy Earl Sizemore, Jr.

Leroy Earl Sizemore, Jr., 89, Sandusky, quietly passed away on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 in the Ohio Veterans Home, after a lengthy illness.

He was born in 1928 in Sandusky, Ohio to Leroy Earl Sizemore and Gladys Ruth (Stovall) Sizemore.

He spent his childhood and teenage years splitting his time between Seneca, South Carolina and Sandusky. It was in Seneca, that he was baptized and first gave his life to Christ. After graduating from high school in 1947 he joined the United States Army from which he was honorably discharged in 1952. After the military, he came back home and married Patrecia Bryant and started working at Aluminum Magnesium (Vulcan Materials).

Leroy was devoted to his family, church and community. He and Pat had 4 children and taught them the importance of honoring and serving God, your family and your community. At Ebenezer, he served as Chairman of the deacon board, chairman of the Official board, Sunday school superintendent, and served as otherwise requested.

He was involved with the Sandusky Board of Education, spent 12 years as a City Commissioner, Sandusky's 2nd African-American ex-officio mayor, and as a member of the following organizations: city's Human Relations Commission, NAACP, Lion's Club, past member of Mason's Lodge #85, board of Firelands Regional Medical Center, Erie County United Way, Safe Harbor Domestic Violence Center, Mylander Foundation, the Frost-Parker Foundation, and the Sandusky State Theatre to name a few.

He supported and loved Sandusky past, present and future. He was a faithful attendee at the Old Timer's Reunion and a longstanding volunteer for the Junior Achievement program. The children are our future.

Leroy is survived by daughters Vicki of Sandusky, Denise of Lexington, S.C., and sons, Leroy (Sonya) and Joe (Sondra), both of Sandusky, his sister, Brenda Parker of Sandusky, 16 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, one niece, two nephews, four god-children, and a dedicated longtime friend Bill Monahan and host of cousins, other family and friends,

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years Patrecia C. (Bryant) Sizemore, his parents, Leroy Sr. and Gladys Ruth (Stovall) Sizemore, and twin sisters, Evelyn Coleman and Carolyn Russell.
