Raymond M. Niehm

Raymond M. Niehm, 89, residing in Sandusky, passed away Thursday morning, January 4, 2018 at Firelands Regional Medical Center after a lengthy illness.

Raymond was born on February 23, 1928 in Sandusky, OH to the late Ben and Hedwig (Panzer) Niehm. After the death of both parents, he was raised by his beloved uncle, Emil Niehm.

Raymond was a 1945 graduate from Sandusky High School and received his master's degree from Bowling Green State University. He taught for 5 years before becoming a principal at the local Sandusky elementary schools. He retired after 39 years of service. Raymond was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Masonic Perseverance Lodge #329 of Sandusky, Retired Sandusky Area Administrators and the Sandusky High School Hall of Fame in 2008. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking, fishing and bird watching. His greatest joy was spending time with his family. .

Raymond is survived by his wife, Virginia (Kluding) Niehm, whom he married on July 19, 1952. He is also survived by his daughter, Marcia Niehm of Sandusky; son, Bruce (Linda) Niehm of Ames, IA; granddaughters, Lindsey and Lauren Niehm; sisters-in-law, Marianne Scott, Eunice Niehm and Barbara Niehm; special friends, Anna Smith, Bill Rosekelly and Kathy; his K9 friend, Murphy and numerous nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives.

In addition to his parents, Raymond is preceded in death by sisters, Audrey Dixon and Dorothy Haughn and brothers, Bernard, Dick and Bob Niehm.

Friends may call on Monday, January 8, 2018 from 10:00 am until the time of funeral services at 12:00 pm at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E Perkins Ave, Sandusky. Deacon Jeff Claar will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky.
