Angelo S. Capizzi

Angelo S. Capizzi, 92-11/12, residing in Sandusky, passed away Sunday afternoon, February 18, 2018 at Ohio Veteran's Home surrounded by family. He survived a debilitating stroke and after nearly five years, he went to meet his departed loved ones.

Angelo was born on March 23, 1925 in Sandusky, OH to the late Colegero (Charles) and Raphaela (Evelyn) (Esposito) Capizzi.

Angelo graduated from Sandusky High School. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army Medic Corps who proudly served his country from 1943-1946. He retired from ODOT as a safety inspector after 15 years of service. He also had previously worked for the Erie County Sheriff's Department and Marblehead Police Department. Angelo was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. He was also a member of the AMVETS, American Legion and the former IAB Club. He was also a member of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, Father Duffy Council. He loved reading, golf, cars, fried bologna sandwiches, Dachshunds, cowboy boots, the Grit TV Channel, Lawrence Welk, the Big Band Era and most of all, his home and family.

Angelo is survived by his daughters, Karen Capizzi and Kimberly Capizzi both of Sandusky; son, Kevin (Marcelina) Capizzi of Ashland; grandchildren, Jennifer Hampton, Angelo Calderon, Julia Calderon, Haley Capizzi, Phillip Capizzi and Sheila Dequito; great-grandchildren, Samuel Lopez, Sarah Hampton and Madelyn Hampton; sisters-in-law, Donna Capizzi and Ann Andres and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

In addition to his parents, Angelo is preceded in death by wife, Katherine (Joss) Capizzi, whom he married on June 13, 1950; sisters, Theresa Digiando and Connie Inmke and brothers, Nicholas and Joseph Capizzi.

Friends may call on Friday, February 23, 2018 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E Perkins Ave, Sandusky. Prayers will be recited at 9:30 am in the funeral home on Saturday, February 24, 2018 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 510 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Father Joe Steinbauer will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Sandusky.
