Harold V. James

Harold V. James, 90, residing in Castalia, Ohio passed away Saturday evening at Firelands Regional Medical Center following a lengthy illness.

He was born September 25, 1927 in McDermott, Ohio to the late Hansford and Okie (Howard) James.

Harold graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1945 and then went on to enlist in the U.S. Army and had also served in U.S. Navy Reserves and retired from the U.S Air Force. He retired from General Motors in 1993 after 20 years of service.

Harold was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Sandusky American Legion Post #83. He enjoyed playing guitar, repairing electronics, physical fitness and spending time with his family and friends.

Harold is survived by his children, Michael James, Jasen (Kristina) James, Cathy (Ron) Gruhlke, Cynthia (Aaron) Harvey and Connie James; thirteen grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; four sisters, Norma James, Mary James, Ida James and Cynthia James; one brother, William James and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Including his parents, Harold is preceded in death by his wife, Mary L. (Kromer) James in 2013; one sister, Ginny James and three brothers, Harry, Wade and Charles James.

Friends may call on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 from 4-7 PM in the Groff Funeral Home and Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Prayers will be recited at on Thursday, March 1, 2018 at 9:30 AM in the funeral home followed by a 10 AM Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky. The Rev. Joe Steinbauer will officiate. Burial will follow in Meadow Green Memorial Park Huron.
