Chester V. "Chet" Keller, Sr.

Chester V. "Chet" Keller, Sr., 86, Sandusky, life- long area farmer, passed away Saturday, September 10, 2011, in Stein Hospice Care Center, with his family members by his bed side.

Chet was a strong, quiet, hardworking man who loved his family, enjoyed his work as a farmer, taking of his family, his land, animals, and building barns and bins. He served as clerk for Perkins Schools for five years and was a member of the Perkins Grange. Chet liked county fairs, especially the Erie County Fair, and the tractor pulls where his favorite. He was awarded Tomato King for a year. In his younger years, he enjoyed square dancing at the Silver Ballroom and Downings Barn, and livestock auctions. Eating at Bob Evans was a favorite outing for him.

Chet is survived by his wife of 57 years, Shirley (Williams) Keller; daughter, Patricia S. Keller, Sandusky; sons, Chester Keller, Jr., Oak Harbor, OH, Worthy R. (Linda) Keller, Wyoming, and David P. Keller, Sandusky; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Perry E. and Elsie (Veit) Keller, Sr.; brother, Perry E. Keller, Jr.; granddaughter, Heidi Keller; grandson, Jakob Keller, who died in the Marine serving our country; and a niece, Sharon E. Keller.

Friends may call on Thursday, September 15, 2011, from 5-7 P.M. in Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. At his request, a private family funeral service will be held in the funeral home. Rev. John Mawhirter and Rev. Lonnie Walters will officiate. Burial will be in Perkins Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Stein Hospice Service, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, OH 44870, or to Zion Lutheran Church, 503 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, or to Victory Temple, 1619 W.
