Barbara A. Schafer, 76, of Monroeville, died Sunday afternoon, September 25, 2011 in the Fisher-Titus Medical Center, Norwalk following a brief illness.

She was born April 25, 1935 in Norwalk.  Barbara was a 1953 graduate of Norwalk St. Paul High School and enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and working in the yard.  She most enjoyed the weekly Sunday evening gatherings with her 42 children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  She loved watching her family participate in their Monroeville Eagle sporting events.  She spent many winters in Florida celebrating life with her very close friends.  Barbara was employed for many years at the Clerk of Courts Office of Huron County, retiring in 1996 and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Monroeville.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Alfred Schafer, daughters and sons-in-law:  Linda (Michael) Hohler and Patricia (Robert) Whitacre of Norwalk, Jane (Thomas) Hedrick of Monroeville, sons and daughters-in-law: Kenneth (Susan) Schafer, David (Jacqueline) Schafer, both of Monroeville, Donald (Annette) Schafer of Willard, Thomas (Kirsten) Schafer of Norwalk, 21 grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and one on the way, one brother: Charles (Patricia) Gies of Norwalk, two sisters: Rose Marie Fritz of Monroeville and Ruth (Harley) Reed of Willard, nieces, nephews and other relatives

She was preceded in death by two sons: Jerome and Stephen Schafer, her parents: Walter & LaDonna (Rekart) Gies, and one sister: Irene.

Friends may call from 3:00 - 8:00 PM today, (Tuesday) September 27, 2011 at the Pfeil Funeral Home, Monroeville Chapel, 109 Monroe Street, Monroeville, where the Rosary will be recited at 2:45 PM today.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at  10:00 AM Wednesday, September 28, 2011 in the St. Joseph Catholic Church, 66 Chapel Street, Monroeville.  The Rev. William Pifher will officiate.  Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Monroeville.
