Rhoda A. Taylor

Rhoda A. Taylor, 91, of Sandusky, passed away Thursday morning, September 13, 2018 at Parkvue Community in Sandusky.

Born December 11, 1926 in Cleveland, Ohio. Rhoda was the daughter of Thomas C. Young and Ruth Metcalf Young.

She was a 1944 graduate of Sandusky High School and a 1948 graduate of Bowling Green State University, with a B.S. in Education. She was a part time teacher at Sandusky Public Schools.

Rhoda married Robert Russell Taylor in 1949 and they shared 58 years together.

She'd been a member of the Martha Pitkin Chapter of National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution since 1973, serving as coordinator of their Scholarship Program for the past 15 years. She was an active volunteer over the years with Calvary Episcopal Church, Grace Episcopal Church, Eastern Star and as a Cub Scout den mother.

In 2012, she was honored with the Woman of Excellence award, offered by Volunteer Center of Erie County and the Zonta Club of Greater Sandusky, for her outstanding service to the community.

Rhoda will be fondly remembered by her family and many friends for her gift of gab, love of Cleveland Indians, playing pinochle, strong faith, and cheerful outlook on life.

She is survived by her son, Thomas (Nan) Taylor, three grandchildren, Christopher, Taryn (Albinus) Nunez, Ryan (Nellie) Bartlett, four great grandchildren, Tyana, Alijah, Madison and Maddox, sister Eleanor Young Wheeler, niece Elizabeth (Patrick) Tisdale, nephew-in-law Paul Bernard, and grandniece Allison and grandnephew Christopher; and very special friends, George and Michele Poulos and Chris, Carol, Char and Jordon Rienhard and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Robert R. Taylor, parents Thomas C. Young and Ruth M. Young, brother in law Bernard D. Wheeler, and niece Abigail W. Bernard.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until time of funeral service at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at Grace Episcopal Church, 315 Wayne St., Sandusky. Rev. Jan Smith Wood will officiate. Burial will be in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron. Lunch will be served at the church afterwards.
