Robert Stanley Guss, Sr.

Robert Stanley Guss, Sr., 81, of Sandusky, left on Saturday, September 22, 2018 to be on Heaven's Railroad.

Bobby was born in Sandusky on April 5, 1937 to the late William George Guss and Ida Marie Luipold.

He was a 1955 Sandusky graduate and was hired on the railroad only four days after graduation. He worked on steam engines for the first three years. The railroads changed from the "Pennsylvania" to "Penn Central" to "Conrail," and he retired from "Norfolk and Southern" in 1999. His career lasted 44 years and seven months.

He met his loving wife, Bettie (Dunlap) Guss, in PA at the railroad office in 1996, where they fell in love and she followed him home. They have a love for their giant schnauzer, Starlight. Bobby loved boating and fishing, and he taught his wife to fish, catching Sturgeon and many walleye and yellow perch.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Sandusky. He was a recovering alcoholic of 31 years. A member of Smart Trans. Alumni Association, NARVRE Railroad Employees, AMVETS of Sandusky, and VFW. Bobby passed from COPD, high lung pressures, Mitral valve, and heart issues.

Bob is survived by his loving wife, Bettie; three estranged children, Robert (Shannon) Guss, Jr., of Michigan, Connie (Dennis) Link, of Sandusky, and Cheryl (Jim) Crooks, of Huron. He has eight grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Lois Hoelzer (Tom) Cruse, of Sandusky; brother, William, and his children, Brian and Kathy Guss, of Louisa, KY; a special nephew, John (Christine) and Taylor and B.J. Guss of Sandusky, who are all very kind and loving; "The Aunt," Betty Ann Guss, and her daughters, Nanette and Elizabeth, of Sandusky; and a cousin, Helen Jean Luipold Billman, of Gilbert, Arizona.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Doris Marie Weber White, in 2014; and a sister-in-law, Judy Hazen Guss, in 2018.

He was loved by his Pennsylvania friends and family: Linda Musgrave, Alice Lampman, Alma (Bob) Kenny, Susan (Patrick) Abramowich - Tad, Katie, and Carolyn, Joanne Phillips, Scott, Brian and Tara - Sarah and David Gigliotti - Bunny, Ken Helsel, Mark Helsel, and Greg and Elizabeth Helsel, Mary Barto, and Theresa Druzisky Frankiewicz, of N. Carolina.

"Thanks for the memories, until we meet again."

There will be no service. Bobby's body has been donated to the Cleveland Clinic Body Donation Program. Through selfless generosity, knowledge grows to possibly help someone in the future.
