Frederick G. Hespeler

Frederick G. Hespeler, 94, of Norwalk, Ohio, passed away Thursday, November 22, 2018, in his home.

He was born September 17, 1924, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Frederick J. and Ida M. (Scheumann) Hespeler, and came to the Norwalk area in 1950 from New London, Ohio.

Fred was a member of St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, Norwalk, Ohio, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in W.W. II.

He was the former owner of the Marathon Service Station of Norwalk, and was a former employee of Standard Oil, Don Tester Ford, and E.H.O.V.E. Joint Vocational School security and information center.

Fred was a 75 year member of Ken Bur Bell Post #41 American Legion, Eagles Aerie #711, was the 2018 Outstanding Senior Citizen of the Firelands Senior Center, and was a member of the Golden Agers. He was a volunteer for the Huron County Blood Mobile, and Fisher Titus Medical Center. He enjoyed dart ball, was an avid Norwalk Truckers, and Cleveland Indians fan, and threw the first slow pitch ball in 1980 for the church slow pitch league. He had also tried out for the Cleveland Indians training camp as a young man.

Fred is survived by his wife of 68 years, Annabelle (Berner) Hespeler, by his daughters, twin Karen Merson of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Margaret Wiles (William Judge) of Wakeman, Ohio, Doris (Stephen) Smith of Urbandale, Iowa, and Annette (Steve) Towry of Claremore, Oklahoma, 10 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren, by his sister, Vera M. Alferio of Kipton, Ohio, and by his son in law, Raymond Smith of Berlin Heights, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, twin Sharen Smith in 2017, by his brother, Harvey E. Hespeler, by his sister, Doris Hespeler, and by his step mother, Mae Hespeler.

Friends may call on Monday, November 26, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in Walker-Eastman-Heydinger Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio. Friends may also call on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. in St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, 243 Benedict Avenue, Norwalk, Ohio. Rev. Ann Marshall will officiate. Interment will be in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron, Ohio.
