Catherine J. (Newcomer) Stratton

Catherine J. (Newcomer) Stratton, 90, residing in Vermilion, passed away Tuesday morning, February 5, 2019 at Stein Hospice Care Center peacefully surrounded by her loving family.

Catherine was born on September 9, 1928 in Sandusky, OH to the late Charles and Alberta (Coombs) Newcomer.

Catherine graduated from Sandusky High School. She retired as a custodian from EHOVE Career Center, and during her retirement worked at Kiddie Korral as a nursery aide. Catherine was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church and Parents Without Partners. In her spare time, she enjoyed bowling, gardening, baking, traveling and attending country music concerts. She was an avid Cleveland Browns and Indians fan. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Catherine is survived by her daughters, Charlene (Bill) May of Tavernier, FL, Ann (David) Ireland of Butler, PA and Holly (Michael) Protzek of Reidsville, NC; sons, Leo Jr. (Frieda) of Castalia, OH, Paul (Sally) of Collins, OH, William (Julie) of Huron, OH, Mark of Sandusky, OH and Clyde Stratton of St. Louis, MO; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; sister, Eleanor (Eugene) Muehling of Bellevue and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

In addition to her parents, Catherine is preceded in death by her former husband, Leo Stratton Sr.; sister, Vivian Kochensparger and brother, Eugene Newcomer.

Friends may call on Sunday, February 10, 2019 from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E Perkins Ave, Sandusky. An additional visitation hour will be held on Monday, February 11, 2019 at 9:00 am until the time of Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 510 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Father Matt Frisbee will officiate. Burial will follow in Perkins Cemetery, Sandusky.
