Robert L. Smith

Robert L. Smith, 81, of Peru, died Saturday, October 22, 2011 at his residence following a brief illness. He was born December 6, 1929 in Mansfield, Ohio and was a 1949 graduate of Monroeville High School. Bob was employed by the CSX Railroad until his retirement. Prior to that, he worked for Chapin & Chapin and had served as a Peru Township Trustee for 24 years. He was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, American Legion Post 41, Norwalk, V.F.W. of Norwalk, Monroeville Rod & Gun Club, Willard Moose and the New London Eagles.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, the former Joanne D. Disbro, his children: Howard (Jan) Smith of Norwalk, Susan (Thomas) Hedrick, Sr., of Monroeville, Robert J. (Carol) Smith of Peru, Kimberly (Brian) Lucal of New London, Russell (Joan) Smith of Monroeville, Rebecca (Donald) Sitterly of Peru, John (Krista) Smith of Peru, 19 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, his siblings: Charles Smith of Norwalk, Evelyn Stockmaster of Havana, Rosemary Grine of Norwalk, Dorothy Pifher of Cincinnati, Irene Braden of Norwalk, Donald Smith of New Haven, Raymond Smith of Sandusky, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Carl & Emma (Myers) Smith, and siblings: Eleanor Braden, Ruth Myntti, James Smith, Adelbert Smith and Eldon Smith.

Friends may call Monday, October 24, 2011 from 3:00 to 8:00 PM at the Pfeil Funeral Home, Monroeville Chapel, 109 Monroe Street, Monroeville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday in the St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Settlement Road, Norwalk. The Rev. William Pifher will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Alphonsus Cemetery.
