Ocie Collins

Ocie Collins, Norwalk, passed away Tuesday August 13, 2019, at the age of 88. The sadness of her departure is joyfully accepted as it ends many years of loneliness and allows her to be rejoined with her husband George, her son Carl, and enter into the kingdom of heaven.

Ocie was born in Maytown, Kentucky, on September 20, 1930, to Lonnie and Poppie (Shepherd) Laferty.

She was one of 14 kids, 6 of which are deceased. Although raised in the era of poverty, she always felt that she never knew she was poor. She knew that her parents provided the most love and support for her that they could and she strived to do the same for her children and grandchildren, as well as her other family members and all of her friends.

On September 20, 1947 she married the love of her life, George Collins, and together they raised 3 children; Carl Eugene, Wilma Fay, and George Edward. Building off the base established by her parents, they provided a loving and caring family. That love and care extended to her all of her in-laws, grandchildren (6), great grandchildren (8), and great great grandchildren (3).

In her early years she was raised in Kentucky, then moving to Ohio at an early age. Bay View was her home for 50 years before moving to Castalia. For the last 6 years she has resided at the Carriage House in Norwalk and the Norwalk Memorial Home.

Her goal in life was to be with family and friends; assisting, visiting, and supporting in any and every way possible. Her passion was to be in the kitchen, where she excelled. Without a doubt she is sure to become the "chief baker" in heaven. In addition to being a homemaker, Ocie worked at various manufacturing plants in the area, mostly at the former Foster Grant and Grill Meats/Chefs Pantry, both of Sandusky, Ohio.

Surviving from her son Carl's family are his wife Kay and their two daughters Shelley and Krista. Shelley is married to Ryan Adkins and they have blessed the family with 3 great granddaughters, Carlie, Jamison, and Rylie. Krista is married to Jim Kish and they have blessed the family with two great granddaughters Ashley and Kaitlyn. Ashley is married to Aaron Newman and together they have blessed Ocie with three great great grandchildren; Colton, Paisley, and Cayden. Ocie was very proud to tell everyone that Aaron and Kaitlyn both currently serve in the United States Navy!

Her daughter Wilma Fay (Rebekah) is married to Bruce Peck (Asa Wilson) and together they added to the family with a grandson Aaron, and granddaughter Jolene (Sarah). Between Aaron and Jolene they have extended the family with two great great grandchildren.

George and his wife Sue have blessed Ocie with grandson Brett and granddaughter Anne. Brett is married to Eileen, and they have blessed Ocie with great granddaughter "CC".

Ocie was preceded in death by brothers Hancer, Otis, Joshua, and Curt. Sisters preceding her in death were Tincy, and Sarah. Surviving brothers are Art (Joan) Laferty and Mitchell (Edith) Laferty. Surviving sisters are Marie Yontz , Jossie Furr, Effie (Don) Voltz, Barb (Ray) Wagner, and Linda (Andy)Smith. Linda was an amazing sister, and Ocie knew how lucky she was to have her as Linda was always there. Although Ocie didn't always express it, she was so thankful for Linda and wanted everyone to be aware of how much she treasured Linda and Andy. George would also like to acknowledge that and tell everyone that Linda is more than his aunt, she is also his "sister".

George and Linda would like to take this opportunity to thank the staffs of The Carriage House and Norwalk Memorial Home for all the care and love they provided Ocie over the years. The outpouring of love and care, especially in the last few days, will remain in our hearts forever.

Final arrangements are for Ocie to be at the Ransom Funeral & Cremation Service, 610 South Washington Street, Castalia, Ohio. Visitation is scheduled for 5 - 8 PM Friday. On Saturday calling hours will be from 9 -10 AM at the funeral home with services starting at 10AM with Pastor Philip Gardner from Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. Burial services will follow at the Meadow Green Memorial Park.

Keeping with Ocie's goal of helping others, she has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Margaretta Fire Department Rescue Squad, Back to the Wild, or one's favorite charity.
