Matthew S. "Matt O" Orshoski

Matthew S. "Matt O" Orshoski, age 56, passed away peacefully Friday, August 30, 2019 in The Meadows at Osborn Park following a long battle with multiple sclerosis.

He was born to Paul R. and Joyce E. (Parker) Orshoski on September 2, 1962, the fifth in a family of six children.

He was a 1980 graduate of Margaretta High School, where he excelled in music. Matt sang solos in the school choir from Kindergarten through his senior year. He sang in church choirs at Grace Lutheran Church and the Castalia Congregational United Church of Christ. Throughout his life, he was a soloist at dozens of weddings. Some of his favorite songs were "The Wedding Song," the "Lord's Prayer", and "You Raise Me Up." When he sang "Annie's Song" to his bride, Cynthia Harmon, on May 27, 1983, there was not a dry eye in the church.

Matt was involved in coaching youth baseball and basketball, and for several years he was the announcer for the basketball team at Margaretta High School in Castalia, Ohio. He also played and coached softball, serving as tournament director for the Cold Creek Softball Tournament for twenty years. Matt was actively involved with the Sandusky Bay Stars of the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate Baseball League in the early 1990s. Matt was a die-hard fan of the Margaretta Polar Bears, Cleveland Indians, and Cleveland Browns.

After working as a plumber and pipe fitter for many years, Matt's final job was with the Sandusky Ford Motor Company. Matt loved his family very much, and before his health declined, he enjoyed numerous family camping trips.

Matt brought joy to the lives of all he encountered. He will be sadly missed, especially his spirit of generosity and his wonderful sense of humor.

Matthew Orshoski is survived by his wife Cynthia; children Kaitlynn (Ryan) Kurt, Joseph Orshoski, Andrew (Lauren Longbrake) Orshoski, and Julia Orshoski; grandchildren Ellie, Connor and Carsyn, and a new grandchild on the way; siblings Dorene Paul, Paul (Tevon) Orshoski, Robin (James) Christman, Todd (Wanda Cronic) Orshoski, and Kellie (Steve) Kenniston; brother in law Randy (Dena) Harmon, sisters in law Janice (Chuck) Gibson and Lyn (Bill) Klein; mother and father in law Amelia and William Bentley, as well as several cousins, nieces, nephews, and a host of lifelong friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a nephew, Joel Paul, his father in law, Joseph Harmon, and former brother in law, Thomas Paul.

Friends may call from 2:00 PM - 7:00 PM, Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at the Congregational United Church of Christ, 205 Main Street, Castalia and from 10:00 AM until time of funeral service at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, September 4, 2019 in the church. Rev. John Paputza will officiate.

Arrangements are entrusted to Pfeil Funeral Home, Sandusky Chapel, 617 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky.
