Sanford Lee Davenport

Sanford Lee Davenport, 72, of Sandusky, passed away peacefully with his family by his side in his home on Wednesday evening, September 4, 2019.

He was born on September 14, 1946 in Green Springs, OH to the late Lewis and Helen (Ward) Davenport.

A 1966 graduate of Green Springs, Sanford then served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam, where he received two purple hearts.

He married Starr Wobser on April 15, 1976. He retired from the Erie County Department of Environmental Services after many years. He was an avid hunter and loved to fish. He also loved to work on and help build race cars. His true love, however, was his family, especially being a "Pupa" to his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Sanford is survived by his wife, Starr (Wobser) Davenport; seven children, Donny (Melanie) Dix, of Castalia, Monica (Keith) Orshoski, of Sandusky, Ron (Lisa) Davenport, of Fremont, Steffani (Joseph) Dauch, of Castalia, Jeffrey Davenport, of Fremont, Nicole (Paul) St. Clair, of Kentucky, and Garrett Davenport, of Sandusky; 23 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; brothers, Eldon and Marvin (Barb) Davenport; and sister, Beverly (Jim) Barr.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Donald and Harold Davenport.

Friends may call on Sunday, September 8 from 3-6 p.m. in Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. A Catholic funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, September 9 in the funeral home with a luncheon to follow in Holy Angels Catholic Church, 428 Tiffin Ave., Sandusky. Burial services with military honors will take place at 2 p.m. on Monday, September 9 in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, 1793 W. McPherson Highway, Clyde.
