Helen Irene Gelhar

Helen Irene Gelhar, 99, of Sandusky, died Wednesday morning, September 18, 2019 in The Meadows at Osborn Park after a lengthy illness.

She was born on December 19, 1919 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Joseph and Anna (Ceizayeh) Bodnar.

She worked at the American Greetings Co. in Brooklyn, Ohio for several years, but most enjoyed being a homemaker for her family.

She was one of Jehovah's Witnesses and a member of the Cedar Point Congregation. She enjoyed cooking, reading the Bible, and spending time with her friends and family.

Helen is survived by her sons, Daniel (Barbara) Gelhar, of Brunswick, Ohio, and Russell (Laurel) Gelhar, of Sandusky; grandchildren, Pamela Coolbaugh, Kathy Kahn, Timothy Gelhar, and David Gelhar; 10 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; two nieces and two nephews; and many other loving relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank H. Gelhar, in 1986; sister, Ann Fox; and brother, Joe Bodner.

Friends and family may call from 10 a.m. on Monday, September 23 until funeral services begin at 11 a.m. in Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Ronald Wildenthaler will officiate. Private burial will take place on Tuesday in West Park Cemetery, Brooklyn, Ohio, where she will be laid to rest next to her husband, Frank.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Helen's name to Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 608 King St., Sandusky, OH 44870.
