Charles "Big Chuck" Charlton

Charles "Big Chuck" Charlton, 78, Sandusky, went home to be with his father on November 26, 2019, in Firelands Regional Medical Center, surrounded by his family.

He was born on November 4, 1941 in Oberlin, OH to the late Charlie Dee and Geraldine Charlton, the oldest of 14 children. Charles was a U.S. Army veteran.

He was employed by the Erie County Sheriff Department until his illness in 1999, and held other security jobs in Michigan and Las Vegas.

Charles was a member of New Jerusalem Baptist Church and the Mass Choir, a member of the Charlton Family Singers and Heaven Bound. He played softball for the Progressive Shop, shot pool for the Cue Club, was a softball umpire, and loved following his grandchildren in their education and sports.

He is survived by the love of his life, Jeanette (Robinson) Charlton, to whom he was married 50 years; children, Darrell (Felicia), Tracy, James, Antje, and Tiara all of Sandusky, and Sharita (Yrik), Columbus, OH; sisters, Cherry Ann and Carolyn, both of Minnesota, Rose, Sandusky, Natalie and Elizabeth, both of Lorain; brothers, Joseph (Diane), Ronald (Marsetta),Nathaniel, and Jeremiah all of Lorain, Gerald (Gina), Colorado; grandchildren, Dae-Jhi, Bryson, Davion, DaSharon, Daviona, Davanai, Dkari, Darrell, Tracy, Anjevia, Janiya, Shamontay, Jaterrance, Jameir, Ja'Sonti, JaMiyah, and Wisdom; great-grandchildren, Daelyn, Braelyn, Diamone, Nasir, Aamir, and one on the way; special friend, brother, Steward William Sr.; very special sister-in-law, Cheryl Williams; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, David; sisters, Corrina and Dorothy; and special friend, Willie "Bud" Marshall.

Friends may call on Wednesday, December 4, 2019, from 10 A.M. until time of funeral services at 12 P.M. Noon in New Jerusalem Baptist Church, 1920 Eddy Henry Way Sandusky. Rev. Curtis L. Johnson Jr. will officiate. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery, where the American Legion Post 83 Color Guard will hold military services.
