He was a purchasing agent at NASA Plum Brook Station, Sandusky, OH, and was employed at Sandusky Electric, Inc. until his retirement in 1991. He was a volunteer at Erie County Care Facility and at OVH in the canteen for many years.

He greatly valued his Catholic faith as the pearl of great price and was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Sandusky, where he was a member of the Parish Council, the prayer network and a member of the Evangelization Team. With his wife Kathleen he was a co-ordinator for the St. Mary's Eucharistic ministry to the homebound, hospital and nursing homes, and co-ordinators of Sandusky-Norwalk Worldwide Marriage Encounter.
