Barbara Faith Mears

Barbara Faith Mears passed away at The Meadows at Osborn Park on Tuesday, March 3, 2020.

She was born in Sandusky on August 7, 1939 to Frank and Thelma (Watzel) Mears.

Barb was a 1958 graduate of Sandusky High School. She started working at the American Crayon Company in 1959 and continued to work there until she retired about 40 years later.

When Barbara started working at the American Crayon, she met Rita Rengel, who was Barb's best friend throughout her life. Rita visited Barb at The Meadows nearly every day. Barb spent 13 years at The Meadows with the same roommate, Pat Churchill. Barb and Pat soon became good friends and with Rita they rooted the Indians on whenever possible! There were rumors that Barb had a crush on Corey Kluber.

Barb was "adopted" by her niece Kelly Campbell and Kelly's family. Barb spent many holidays with the Campbell's and she loved their animals.

Barb enjoyed reading, watching game shows, and playing word search games. She had an amazing memory and the entire family relied and her to remember when people were born, when they passed away, etc. Barb was a quiet person, except when she wasn't....like when her brother and sister-in-law took her shopping at the mall and she told everyone they were from Holland!

Barbara's faith was a very important part of her life. In fact, her first name was actually Faith. Barb was a member of First Christian Church and she attended services there regularly as long as she could. She was a good Christian and a sweet and gentle soul.

Barb is survived by her brother, Ed Mears and his wife Inger Huidekoper of Haarlem, Holland; nieces, LuAnn Hetrick-Wood and Kelly Campbell; and nephews, Mark Hetrick and Michael Hetrick.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Colleen Nitschke and Janet Hetrick; and her parents, Frank and Thelma Mears.

Friends may call from 9:30 am until time of funeral service at 10:30 am Monday, March 9, 2020 in the First Christian Church, 3410 Hayes Ave., Sandusky. Pastor Don Spurlock will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Sandusky. Sandwiches and coffee will be served at First Christian Church following the burial.

Memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice, 907 W. State Street, Suite A, Fremont, Ohio 43420.

Pfeil Funeral Home, Sandusky Chapel, 617 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky is entrusted with arrangements.
