Dan R. "J.R."  Cassel Jr.

With deepest sorrow we announce that J.R., our most beloved son, brother, father and friend, passed away Saturday, April 18, 2020. He was 41 years old, residing in Avon Lake, and formerly of Sandusky.

Always the life of the party, J.R. would want his friends and family to keep on loving and celebrating his life!

Dan was born on June 23, 1978 in Sandusky, OH to Mary Jane (Zimmerman) Cassel and Dan R. Cassel Sr.

Dan attended St. Mary's Central Catholic School graduating in 1996. Dan also attended EHOVE's Carpentry Class graduating in 1996. Dan was employed by Kokosing as a union laborer and was a member of the Laborers' Local 480. Dan was an avid outdoorsman. He loved fishing, hunting, boating, kayaking, biking, camping and hiking. His boys loved the adventures right along with him.

Dan is preceded in death by his grandparents, Ruth Ann and Lawrence Zimmerman; grandmother, Juanita Cassel; aunt and uncle, Pat and Tom Zimmerman; and uncle, James Moloney.

Dan is survived by his parents, Mary Jane (Scott) Norton and Dan (Kathy) Cassel; sons, Bryce, Hunter and Matthew Cassel; sister, Cherie (Shawn) McCleese and son AJ; his loving fiancée, Rebecca Mehling and son River; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; and his faithful companions Kimber and Miles.

Private family services will be held on Wednesday April 22, 2020 at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E Perkins Ave, Sandusky. A Celebration of Life for Dan will be announced at a later date.

Those wishing to contribute to Dan's memory may do so to the Humane Society of Erie County, 1911 Superior St. Sandusky, OH 44870 because Dan loved animals and was a proud breeder of German Short Haired Pointers or the Stein Hospice Services In-Patient Unit, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, OH 44870 the incredible organization where his mother retired from after dedicating years of service.
