Rev. Jesse James Hurley age 80 of Bellevue went to be with the Lord Monday, Dec. 12, 2011 at his residence surrounded by his family.  He was born May 15, 1931 in Harland Co., Kentucky the son of the late Charlie & Amanda (Smith) Hurley.

 

He came to Ohio in 1956 and married his wife Evelyn and they began their ministry in the Lord.  Through the next few years, he pastored two churches and was a special speaker for various events.  He was well known for his preaching of revivals throughout the South.  He served as the president of Pentecostal Fellowship of North America for eight years.  During that time, he introduced and sang at folk masses for various Catholic churches in the Toledo area.  Rev Hurley received his education through the Pentecostal Holiness College. He collaborated with WPOS radio station and was a diligent promoter of Southern Gospel music in Northern Ohio.  He enjoyed preaching in the Appalachian mountain area and was recognized by the state of Kentucky as a Kentucky Colonel for his contribution of service and citizenship to the state.  He retired from General Motors in Toledo after 30 years of service as a chaplain and employee.

 

Survivors include his beloved daughter Brenda (Jim) Hurley-Shank of Port Clinton, grandsons; Jestin (Tiffany) Shank of Bowling Green, Gavin Shank of Boulder, CO, Keltin Shank of Port Clinton, Login Shank of Northwood, Collin Shank of Port Clinton, grandchildren; Karissa, Kaden, Karter, Koltin, Kentin and Kiptin Shank all of Bowling Green, sister; Wilma Branson, brother; Charles (Edith) Hurley, nieces; Teresa (Stanley) Warren, Lisa (Joey) Cravey, nephew; Ricky Hurley all of Orlando, FL, special friend; Laura Lee of Bellevue and several great nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents his wife of 38 years; Evelyn and second wife of 14 years, Virginia preceded him in death.

 

Friends will be received on Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2011 from Noon until the service at 1:00 pm at Foos and Foos Funeral Service, 151 Yorkshire Place, Bellevue.  Rev. Gene Paul of Clyde Church of God will officiate.  Burial will be in Swanton Cemetery, Swanton, OH.

 

Memorials may be made to Maranatha Church which was founded by Rev. Hurley and his wife Evelyn in Toledo through the funeral home
