Connie F. (Spung) Butler

Connie F. (Spung) Butler, 78, residing in Sandusky, passed away Monday afternoon, July 6, 2020 at Firelands Regional Medical Center.

Connie was born on November 5, 1941 in Corning, OH to the late Clarence Ralph and Thelma Irene (Alexander) Spung.

Connie graduated from Corning High School in 1960. Following graduation she moved to Zanesville, OH for employment and then returned to Corning; upon returning she decided to move to Columbus in 1961 for employment purposes. In 1962, she met and got engaged to SP-5 Robert W. Butler. They wed on October 5, 1963. The following year, in July 1964, they welcomed their first son, Harry Grover. In January 1966, they moved to Fort Monmouth, NJ and welcomed their daughter, Carolyn Sue, in November. Three years later, in July 1969, they moved to the Rochester, NY area. A year later, in July 1970, the family moved to Fort Wainwright, AK, where their son, Roger William, was born in November 1972. The following year, in January 1973, they moved to Fort Eustis, VA, where she worked for the Army and Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES). In 1978, they moved to Reynoldsburg, OH, after her husband retired from the Army as a Master Sergeant (E-8), and she worked at the Jolly Pirate donut shop. The following year, they relocated to The Plains and then Athens, OH, for her husband to continue with a higher education and she worked at Murphy Mart. In June 1982, she and the children moved again to Bellevue, OH to join her husband, who had begun work at the Erie County Health Department several months before, and she continued to work at Murphy Mart. In September 1987, the family returned to Athens, OH and she worked at Murphy Mart (Ames) again. Two years later, in July 1989, the family moved to Stephens City, VA. In 1991, they moved to Millersville, MD and she returned to her work with the AAFES at Fort Meade. The final move was to Sandusky, in 1992, where she worked at Kmart, Hills (Ames), Meijer and Walmart until her health problems forced her retirement.

Connie is survived by her husband of 56 plus years, Robert W. Butler; two sons, Harry (Erika Remmy) Butler of Morrisville, PA and Roger (Diana) Butler of Greencastle, PA; daughter, Carolyn (James) Stahl of Norwood, MA; four grandchildren, Amber, Caitlin, and Johnathan Stahl of Norwood, MA and Jackson Butler of Greencastle, PA; sister, Patty Spung of Sandusky; sister-in-law, Virginia Yearicks of Rio Grande, NJ; niece, Valerie (Sean) Hughes of Paramus, NJ; two grand-nephews, Eamon and Rory Hughes of Paramus, NJ; and other extended family.

In addition to her parents, Connie is preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Grover Cleveland and Goldie Alexander; paternal grandparents, Otto and Goldie Spung; mother-in-law, Margarete (Loesche) Butler; father-in-law, Harry G. Butler Jr.; and numerous cousins, aunts and uncles.

Friends may call on Saturday, July 11, 2020 from 12:00 pm until the time of the committal service at 1:00 pm in the Meadow Green Memorial Park Mausoleum, 2602 Bogart Rd., Huron. Burial will follow in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
