Alvah C. Wiedenheft, age 97, of Sandusky, died Friday morning, December 23, 2011, in Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky.

He was born August 22, 1914, in Margaretta Township. He was a 1932 graduate of Margaretta High School, where he was the last remaining member and captain of the 1932 State Championship Basketball Team. He was a life-long area farmer and a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Sandusky.

Alvah is survived by two daughters Betty (Wesley) Miller, and Carol (Russ) Stephens both of Sandusky; 11 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; one sister Evelyn Lusch of Waterville; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Mabel Meggitt Wiedenheft in 2010; one son William Wiedenheft; granddaughter Alison Stephens; his parents Charles and Minnie Troike Wiedenheft; two brothers Carlos and Oliver Wiedenheft; and one sister Gladys Wiedenheft.

Family and friends may call from 9:00 am Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011, until time of services at 11:00 am in the Ransom Funeral Home, 610 S. Washington St., Castalia. The Rev. Philip Gardner will officiate and burial will be in Castalia Cemetery.
