August "Gus" J. Pepitone Jr.

August "Gus" J. Pepitone Jr., 73, residing in Sandusky, passed away unexpectedly at home Wednesday, December 30, 2020.

Gus was born on July 5, 1947 in Sandusky, OH to the late August "Gus" J. and Anne E. (Johnson) Pepitone Sr.

Gus attended Perkins High School. He was hired as a volunteer firefighter in 1972 for the Perkins Township Fire Department while working at Wagner Quarry, and attending firefighter school before becoming a full time firefighter in 1973. He served as a lieutenant for many years before retiring on October 25, 1998 after 26 years of service. Gus served as President of the Firefighter Union Local 1953.

Growing up he was an avid stock car racer with his father and brother. He was a member of the World Karting Association and was a certified Briggs & Stratton Master Service Technician. Gus won multiple championships in Competition Karting, and was a master race motor builder that won many championships over the years. Gus loved his music and football, especially the Cleveland Browns.

He will be missed by many, including, sons August "Gus" J. Pepitone III and Jeffrey L. Pepitone both of Sandusky; granddaughter, Jessica Marie Blankenship-Pepitone of KY; great-grandson, Jayden Blankenship; sisters, Patricia A. Price and Phyllis A. Andrews both of Sandusky; niece, Renae (Jason) Whiting and great nieces and nephew, Sierra, Katelyn and Jason Whiting.

In addition to his parents, Gus is preceded in death by his brother, Charles "Joe" J. Pepitone; special in-laws, Jody Pepitone, Bert "Ed" E. Price and Paul H. Andrews and longtime canine companion, Sir Diezel.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. Burial will take place at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Sandusky. Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.

The family would like to thank the Perkins Township Fire Department for all their help at this difficult time.
