Arthur R. Hayes

Arthur R. Hayes, age 78, of Castalia, passed away Thursday evening, February 4, 2021, in his residence, surrounded by his family, following a lengthy illness.

He was born September 7, 1942, in Johnstown, OH, and graduated from Johnstown-Monroe High School in 1961.

Arthur served in the US Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was life-time member of the VFW post 2529 and a member of the Knights of Pythias White Cross Lodge #308 of Johnstown, OH. Arthur retired from Norfolk-Southern after working there for over 30 years.

Arthur loved to mow his yard and take care of his landscape; he also enjoyed doing crosswords and other puzzles; shooting pool; and watching and rooting for the Cleveland Indians and Browns, OSU Buckeyes, and the Sandusky Blue Streaks.

He is survived by his wife Bridget (McPeek) Hayes, whom he married on May 23, 1981; two sons David (Brandie) Hayes, Daytona FL and Sean Hayes, Mansfield; grandchildren Tyler (Phylicia) Hayes, Alec Hayes, Marlene (Chris) Hayes, Elizabeth (Mike) Hayes, Sarah (Aaron), and Eric Hoover; great grandchildren Wyatt, Kristine, Reena, Mason, Nancy, Jasper, Aslynn, Cataleya, Mitchell, and Finn; sister Edna Zehner, IL; brothers Charlie (Nancy) Hayes, Johnstown, Earl (Sue) Hayes, Newark, Daryl Eugene (Brenda) Hayes, FL; and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews.

Arthur was preceded in death by his parents E. Harrison and Irene (Watson) Hayes; sisters Nelda Jakeway, Shelea Hayes, and Jayne Dorsey; brothers Junior James Hayes, Frank Hayes, Bobby Hayes, and Wesley Hayes.

Friends may call from 4-7 PM Monday February 8, 2021, at Ransom Funeral & Cremation Service, 610 S. Washington St., Castalia, where services will be held on Tuesday, February 9, 2021, at 1 PM. Burial will be in Castalia Cemetery. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, all in attendance will have to wear masks and practice social distancing.
