Donald J. Nath

Donald J. Nath, 82, residing in Sandusky, passed away Monday afternoon, March 15, 2021 at home following complications from a fall and diabetes.

Don was born on July 3, 1938 to the late Harold J. and Elizabeth (Clouse) Nath.

Don attended Holy Angels and St. Mary's Elementary schools and St. Mary's High School. He was a graduate of Bowling Green State University and continued his education at the Cleveland Institute of Art and Texas Hill Country Arts Foundation. While attending BGSU, he was a member and chapter President of Ohio Kappa, Phi Delta Theta. He was also elected to both the Art and Education Honorary Societies.

Don taught art at Sandusky High School and started the art program at St. Mary's Central Catholic in 1970. He was owner and operator of the Star Cafe in downtown Sandusky in the early 1980's. He was a well-known graphic designer, sign painter and artist in the area, and designed the furniture and floor plan for St. Mary's Church, Sandusky, as well as St. John the Baptist Church in Landeck, OH.

In Sandusky, Don was active in many civic projects. He was a founding member of the Old House Guild of Sandusky, the Downtown Merchants Association, and President and Project Manager of the Friends of the Boeckling. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and served as Deputy Grand Knight of Council #546 and Fourth Degree Knight of the Bishop Machebeuf Council.

Don is survived by his wife, Rose Ellen (Smith) Nath, whom he married in 1975. He is also survived by his sisters, Mary Ann Pelz and Darlene Koehler; nieces, Jennifer Nath and Tracy (Chad) Satterfield and nephews, Kevin (Carla) Pelz and Matthew (Amee) Koehler.

In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Nath and brother-in-law, Ken Pelz.

Friends may call on Thursday, March 18, 2021 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E Perkins Ave, Sandusky. Prayers will be recited in the funeral home on Friday, March 19, 2021 at 9:30 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky. Fathers Phil Feltman and Monte Hoyles will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky.
