Richard Edwin "Dickie" Seavers

Richard Edwin "Dickie" Seavers 89, Sandusky, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, September 29, 2021, after a lengthy illness in the Providence Care Center.

He was born on June 28, 1932 in Sandusky to the late James and Naomi (Wilson) Seavers, the second eldest of eleven children. Richard graduated from Sandusky High School Class of 1950.

Before being drafted into the Army, and being stationed in Korea, he worked two years at New Departure Hyatt, and after an honorable discharge from the military, he returned to New Departure Hyatt for another ten years. He then worked at Scott paper Co. for twenty years and then only to return to New Departure for his final twelve years, retiring in 1993, as an electrician.

Being dedicated to support the work of the church, he was a longtime member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, and then a charter member of Harvest House Christian Church. He sang in the men's choir, the combined choir at Ebenezer, and lending an uplifting voice to the male chorus at Harvest House Christian Church. Richard enjoyed all sports, especially bowling, and held memberships in the UAW Local 913, NAACP, and AARP.

Richard is survived by his devoted fiancé/companion of twenty years, Emma Moore and her two children, Yvette (Ken) Rankins, Sandusky and Jonathan (Serena) Moore, Perrysburg, OH; daughters, Anita (Dean) Eberhart, Cheboygan, MI, Sheryl Seavers, Sandusky, and Carla Haskins-Welch, Massilion, OH; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; step children, Kimbra Young Trimble, Cincinnati, OH, and Tonya Young, Toledo, OH; sister, Vivian Lash, Sandusky; brothers, Theadore (Othela) Seavers, Altodina, CA, Thomas (Renee) Seavers, Massilion, OH, and Gregory (Bessie) Seavers, Sandusky; aunts, Dorothy Farrar, Sandusky and Bertha Seavers; and a host of other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Helen Robinson; second wife, Doris Underwood Seavers; brothers, James Jr., William, Gary, Robert Seavers; sisters, Audry Parker, Swiyyah "Marilyn" Mautali, and Joyce in infancy.

Friends may call on Thursday, October 7, 2021, from 10 A.M. until time of funeral services at 12 P.M. Noon in Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Rev. Josiah Brown will officiate.
