She continued her education at the University of Akron, graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in Communications, a degree that aptly describes Cheryl's personality as she communicated with EVERYONE!

She spent her whole life, from a small child until the day she departed, bringing joy and comfort to others, imparting words of wisdom and encouragement to all. Be it friend or foe, family or stranger...it didn't matter...all who encountered her were blessed. Cheryl worked for the City of Akron Public Works/Customer Service for over 30 years, where she loved her interaction with the community, answering questions and helping solve problems.

Cheryl was reared in the church and received a solid foundation in the teachings of the Lord as a member of the Assembly of Jesus Christ Church, Sandusky, Ohio, where she was baptized at a young age. She was recently on a self-appointed spiritual journey to grow closer to God as she studied His word in depth to discover and fulfill His purpose for her life. She was excited and enthusiastically shared everything she was learning.
Cheryl enjoyed life and all that it entailed...in addition to loving people, young and old, she also loved music, dancing, dancing and more dancing!! She was an avid reader of mostly mystery novels and was very fond of Reese's Cups and her famous home-made iced tea. She loved her daughter Shelby Lynne more than anything, boasting about her to everyone. She was most recently obsessed with her most treasured gift, her grand-daughter, Alayah Lynne, who she affectionately called "Nohme's Girl".

Cheryl's time on earth came to an end on Tuesday, November 23, 2021. She leaves behind to carry on her legacy and many memories of love and laughter her beloved daughter, Shelby Lynne Johnson-McMillan (her Phat-Tu), granddaughter, Alayah Lynne Moss, her sisters, Eva Marie Johnson and Tracy Ann Johnson Logan, her niece, Kyla Joy Croom (her LuLu), her buddy, Shelby's dad, Thes McMillan, her "bonus babies" Thes (Man) McMillan, Darius Johnson, Daneesha McMillan, Diamond McMillan, Destiny McMillan and Tamia Singletary, "bonus grandkids" Mark Johnson, Markae Johnson, Martez Johnson, Rylee Hoisten, and Nova Hoisten, her best friends Tammy Woods and Gerry Hoisten and special cousin Erica Ashford.
