Marcus E. French

Marcus E. French, age 83, of Milan, died suddenly Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at his residence.

He was born January 21, 1929 in Worchester, MA to the late Emmett and Marion (Brady) French. He was raised in Rye, New York, served in the US Army during WWII, and received a Masters Degree in Chemistry from Holy Cross College in Worchester, MA. He worked at Allied Chemical and General Foam before moving to Milan in 1970 and retired after 23 years as President of Janesville Products in 1993.

He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Board of Trustees at Firelands BGSU, Board of Directors at Citizens National Bank and served on the Textile Workers Union Board of Directors, Extol Board of Directors and St. Paul High School Advisory Board.

On Marcus' 83rd birthday he celebrated and rejoiced as 126 birthday cards from 16 states and 3 countries were testimonies to his life's legacy. He was known for his love of the Cleveland Cavaliers and St. Paul Flyers, and was an avid sports fan. He was also a supporter of St. Paul Catholic Church and various civic organizations.

He is survived by his daughters, Carol (Mark) Gass of Belleville, IL, Margaret "Peggy" Lucas of Norwalk, and Marci (Chris) Reikowski of Milan; grandchildren, Mary Boyle, Donnie Boyle, Meaghan Gass, Marcus (Jacyln) Gass, Joseph Lucas, Michelle Gass, Nicole Reikowski, Ryan Reikowski and Vincent Gass; and a great-grandchild, Joseph Gass.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary N. (Nugent) French in 2003; sister, Carol French, and son-in-law Larry Lucas.

Friends may call on Sunday from 2 - 5 P.M. at the Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday at 10:30 A.M. at St. Paul Catholic Church, 91 E. Main Street, Norwalk. The Rev. Frank Kehres, pastor of the church, will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Paul Cemetery.
