Gary D. Strohm

Gary D. Strohm, 86, Sandusky, died Thursday, January 13, 2022, in Firelands Regional Medical Center.

He was born in Sandusky on April 24, 1935, to the late George and Lynnetta (Meyer) Strohm.

He was a police officer for the Sandusky Police Department for 25 years, retiring in 1990, and the Erie MetroParks Safety Director for 15 years.

Gary was a member of First Faith Community Church, American Legion Post 83, Sandusky, Fraternal Order of Police for 50 years, raced stock cars from the age of 14 to 30, at Sandusky, Fremont, Attica, and Michigan speedways, going camping, traveling in his motor home, spending time with family and watching his grandchildren's high school sporting events, gardening his entire life, canning and freezing his many fruits and vegetables. His passion was sprint car racing and following the world of outlaws.

He is survived by his daughter, Debra (Paul) Ross, Marblehead, OH; son, Jeff Strohm, Sandusky; six grandchildren, Jason (Melissa) Ross, Michael (Lynn) Ross, Philip (Sara) Ross, Jeffrey (Ashlea) Schweinfurth, Jessica (Adam) Parton, and Jeremy Strohm; five great-grandsons and five great-granddaughters; special niece, Ruth "Sis" Burger; and nephew, Jerry Stacey.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Joyce A. (Andres) Strohm, in 2014; parents; daughter-in-law, Sheila Strohm; and a sister, Janice Hush.

Friends may call on Sunday, January 23, 2022, from 1 P.M. until time of memorial services at 3 P.M. in Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. The F.O.P. will hold memorial services at 1 P.M. in the funeral home.
