Abner S. Dobyns, 90, of Sandusky, died early Wednesday morning, February 15, 2012 in the Firelands Regional Medical Center, Sandusky.

He was born November 21, 1921 in Decatur, Alabama. Abner moved to Sandusky in 1939, and married Alice E. King on July 23, 1942. He then served in the U.S. Navy for 3 ½ years, being stationed in Norfolk, Va., Miami, Fl., and then in the Pacific Theater. Abner was a self-employed painter in the Sandusky area, until his retirement. He was a member of the Painters Union, Local 788, and became a member of the Jehovah's Witness in 1990. His hobbies included playing the guitar, singing and listening to music.

He is survived by his wife, Alice, four sons: John (Kathy) Dobyns of Sandusky, Ronald (Linda) Dobyns of Tipp City, OH., Kenneth (Susan) Dobyns of Raleigh, N.C., and David (Kimberly) Dobyns of Bellevue, one daughter: Amy Jones of Sandusky, 11 grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one step-daughter, five brothers and four sisters.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, February 18, 2012 in the Jehovah's Witness Kingdom Hall, 608 King Street, Sandusky. Mr. Chuck Cochran will officiate the service. Committed services for the family will be in Sand Hill Cemetery, Groton Township.
