Doris Whyde

Doris Whyde, was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother who died peacefully on January 24, 2022, just shy of her 99th birthday. She spent her life making the lives of everyone she loved more incredible, using her many talents.

She was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ, where she sang in the choir. Doris turned her passion and talents for antique dolls and toys into a business. Her exceptional skills in both sewing and painting porcelain antique reproduction dolls, won her many awards, and respect throughout the doll community as a member of the Ohio Federation of Doll Clubs.

Doris was preceded in death by her devoted husband, James Whyde, creating a love story that lasted over 70 years, and her grandson, Nick Whyde. Doris was one of four children to Arthur and Myrtle (Jump) Altvater. Her brothers were Lowell (Mary) Altvater, Emerson (Mary Jean) Altvater, and sister, Norma (Roger) Addy.

Surviving are her three children, Nancy (Michael) McMaster, David (Barbara) Whyde, and Dan (Lois) Whyde; grandchildren Mark Lorcher, Michael (Nancy) Lorcher, Michele (Michael) Ziemke, Cindy (Todd) Livengood, Tracee (John) Lizzi, Laurie (Kevin) Wallack, Bridget (Trevor) Holmes, Jill (Tobias) Gibson, Christine (Ken) Smith, and Heidi (Michael) Uriano. She also loved her nineteen great grandchildren, thirteen great-great grandchildren, and shirttail relation and close friend, Shirley Gahr.

Friends may call from 1 PM until time of services at 2 PM Friday, January 28, 2022, at Ransom Funeral & Cremation Service, 610 S. Washington St., Castalia. Pastor John Paputza will officiate. Burial will be in Venice Cemetery.
