Virginia "Ginny" (Dahs) Bertsch

We regretfully announce the passing of Virginia "Ginny" (Dahs) Bertsch, 85, of Avon Lake, Ohio on March 16, 2022.

Ginny resided in Sandusky with her husband, Tom, for over 80 years before moving to Avon Lake to be with their children and grandchildren.

Ginny was the strongest and kindest person and her family was blessed to have her as the lead matriarch. She taught those around her about the importance of faith, family, and friendship.

Ginny graduated from Sandusky High School in 1955 and went on to obtain a Bachelor's of Science degree in 1959 from The Ohio State University. After college, she used her passion and skills to teach Home Economics at Sandusky High School, Perkins High School and St. Mary's High School. She created and led a 4-H club where she shared her love for baking, cooking and sewing to many members of the 4-H community.

She met her husband, Tom, at the baseball field where they both shared a love of the sport. Throughout their 54 years of marriage, the two enjoyed their time at the Sandusky Elks Club, playing golf and bowling in couples leagues and later shared their love of sports traveling to watch their three children play competitive baseball, tennis, soccer, golf and basketball. Ginny was a wonderful and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who served as a fantastic role-model and pillar of strength. She faced any obstacle or challenge with perseverance and grace. Her smile and laugh were infectious and her heart was full of kindness.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas E. Bertsch; daughters: Susan (John) Hall, Linda (Skip) Uveges; son, Thomas J. (Claire) Bertsch; and grandchildren: Jonathan, Jason and Marissa Hall; Cambelle and Charlie Uveges; Abby and Jack Bertsch; and great-grandchildren: Parker and Henry Hall; sister, Esther (Dahs) Omaits, and brother, Freddy Dahs.

Virginia was preceded in death by her brother, Eugene Dahs; parents, Fred and Blanche Dahs and in-laws, Lee and Annabelle Bertsch.

Friends may call on Monday, March 21, 2022 at 9:00 am until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky. Father Joe Lang and Deacon Pete Moore will officiate. Burial will follow in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
