Forrest D. McElroy

Forrest D. McElroy, 86, of Sandusky died Wednesday morning, February 22, 2012 in the Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky.

He was born November 7, 1925 in Akron, Ohio to Elmer & Martha (Erdman) McElroy, the youngest of six children. The McElroy family moved to Sandusky when Forrest was very young and he attended the Sandusky City Schools. He served three years in the U.S. Navy, during WW II in the Pacific Theather.

Forrest married the former Arlene Klein on October 14, 1950. He was employed by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Works Union prior to his retirement. He was a member of Resurrection Lutheran Church, Sandusky, a 50 year member and past Master & Treasurer of Perseverance Lodge No. 329, F.& A.M., member and past High Priest & Secretary of Sandusky City Chapter No. 72, R.A.M., member and past Illustrious Master of Sandusky City Council No. 26, R. & S.M., member and past Commander of Erie Commandery No. 23, K.T., member of Knights of the York Cross of Honour, member of Singara Grotto, member of the Commodore Denig Post 83, American Legion and a member of the Zion Lutheran Dartball Team #5.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Arlene McElroy, one daughter: Christine (Mike) Antel of Sandusky, two sons: William (Vicki) McElroy of Sandusky and Larry (Janis) Blake of Troutville, Oregon, one grandson: Christian (Elizabeth) Antel of Galloway, OH., great grandson: Marshall Antel, one sister: Gloria Brackney of Huron, and several step grandchildren, great grandchildren nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Andrew & Richard McElroy, and two sisters: Mary Ernst and Marjorie Smith.

Friends may call Friday, February 24, 2012 from 2:00-4:00 & 7:00-9:00 PM at the Pfeil Funeral Home, Sandusky Chapel, 617 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky where Perseverance Lodge will hold memorial services at 6:45 PM Friday. Friends may also call Saturday, February 25, 2012 from 9:00 AM until time of funeral service at 10:00 AM at the Resurrection Lutheran Church, 216 Pennsylvania Avenue, Sandusky. The Rev. Kathleen F. Shuck will officiate. Burial will be in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Resurrection Lutheran Church or to the Stein Hospice Service, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, Ohio 44870.
