Earl Robert McLoney, M.D.

Earl Robert McLoney, M.D., age 82, of Norwalk, passed away Friday, March 02, 2012 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

He was born May 7, 1929 in East Township, Ohio to the late Harry D. and Hazel L. (Johnson) McLoney. He attended No. 5 Norristown grade school and graduated from Carrollton High School. He was a graduate of Mount Union College and was a member of the Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity, Purdue University as a teaching assistant. He was a graduate of the University Of Cincinnati College Of Medicine where he was a member of the Alpha Kappa Kappa Fraternity, and served general rotating internship at St. Joseph's Hospital in Flint, MI. He then served in the US Army Medical Corp. and was a Post Surgeon at Ft. Hayes in Columbus, OH, and was awarded the Commendation Ribbon with a metal pendant.

In August of 1959 Dr. Earl McLoney moved to Norwalk and was one of the original founders and Past Presidents of the Norwalk Clinic, where he retired as a Family Practice Physician in 1996. He was a Huron County Deputy Coroner for 32 years and Coroner for six months, Medical Director at Gaymont Nursing Center from 1989-1999. He was a member of the Huron County Board of Health for 16 years, past Team Physician for Norwalk High School football team for 25 years, and Physician for the Presbyterian Church sponsored Migrant Health Fair from 1992-2010. He was a lifetime member of American Academy of Family Practice, Emeritus Staff of Fisher-Titus Medical Center, member of American Medical Directors Association, Past President and member of Huron County Medical Society, Past President of Fisher-Titus Medical Staff, former member of the Fisher-Titus Hospital Board and member of the Society of Civil War Surgeons.

He was a Norwalk Middle School Science Fair judge from 1969-1999, Elder for First Presbyterian Church in Norwalk for four terms, and member of the church choir. A member of Families First of Ohio #2643, lifetime member of Norwalk Historical Society and Trustee of Young Men's Library and Reading Association of Norwalk, Charter Member of Firelands Civil War Roundtable, supporter of Johnson's Island Civil War Prison and Civil War Preservation Trust, Association for the Preservation of Civil War Sites, Friends of the National Parks at Gettysburg, National Museums of Civil War Medicine, and Perrysville Battlefield Association. He was an avid collector of Civil War Memorabilia for over 35 years, past member of the Norwalk Elks Lodge and Rotary Club, Third Degree Member of Mt. Vernon Lodge #64 F&AM where he received the Community Builders Award in 1998. He was a former Habitat for Humanity Board Member and was instrumental in organizing the First Presbyterian Church's Habitat for Humanity house in Norwalk.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn M. (Griesheimer) McLoney, to whom he married June 17, 1951; daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Philip Stormer, Gail and William Klein; son, Mark A. McLoney, M.D. and partner, Brian Keating; granddaughter, Kimberly Lee; grandson, Dillon McLoney Klein; great-grandchildren, Dominik Patrick Lee and Stella Evelyn Lee; and a brother, John Harry (Elizabeth Ann) McLoney

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Dale Ray McLoney.

A gathering of family and friends will be held Tuesday, March 6, 2012 from 2:00 - 4:00 and 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Wednesday at 11:00 A.M. at the First Presbyterian Church, 21 Firelands Blvd, Norwalk with the Rev. Adrian N. Doll officiating. Private interment will be held at East Lawn Cemetery in Minerva, OH.
