Robert A. Ziemke

Robert A. Ziemke, 75, of Sandusky, died Friday, March 25, 2022.

Robert "Bob" Ziemke aka Zip-Zap-Ziemke was born in Sandusky on May 25th, 1946 to the late Robert B. and Margorie J. (Henkel) Ziemke.

Bob worked for NASA for over 4 decades as well as brief tours with the EPA and in private industry. Bob was a gifted engineer. He designed, fabricated, and commissioned special test equipment for the large-scale ground test facilities at NASA Plum Brook Station that are legendary. His foundational insights and engineering aesthetic were above reproach. In particular he enjoyed working with the skilled technicians and young engineers assigned to implement his systems as well as grinding through problems in real time with a test operations team looking for ways to improve the quality of testing services that NASA provides.

Bob's engineering acumen flowed into his passion for sound recording which included supporting the Vacationland Band, the Sandusky High School Alumni Band, and the Erie County Ohio State Alumni Band as well as identifying the best places to sit to listen to the pipe organs in the various churches in Sandusky. Taking pictures of items that caught his eye, from the seemingly mundane to high tech apparatus, was another passion he practiced daily. A Panasonic point and shoot digital camera was an essential part of his wardrobe.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister Susan J. (Albert) Ziemke.

On Tuesday June 7th, 2022 from 4pm till 7pm, family, friends, and acquaintances are encouraged to gather at Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky to memorialize Bob's life.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Zion Lutheran Church, 503 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, or Stein Hospice Service, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky.

Bob will be interred on Wednesday, June 8th at 2:30pm at the Oakland Cemetery and Memorial Park 2917 Milan Road, Sandusky Ohio 44870.
