Robert "Bob" B. Springstead, Jr., age 93, of Sandusky passed away on September 23, 2022, following a lengthy illness.
He was born on August 17, 1929, to Robert Bruce and Edna (Sharp) Springstead.
He was a lifelong resident of Sandusky, graduating from Sandusky High School in 1948. Bob worked at New Departure Hyatt, the General Motors plant, for 43 plus years, retiring in 1992. He was an avid musician, playing trombone in several bands, including "Four Notes Plus One". He also served as President of the Sandusky Musicians Association for many years and was a lifetime member of the American Federation of Musicians. Bob enjoyed bowling in several leagues during his life, as well as singing at weddings and other social occasions.
At the time of his passing, he was the oldest living member of Trinity United Methodist Church, having joined at age 12.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Rhoda "Toni" (Cecil) Springstead; one son, David (Martha) Springstead; two daughters, Deborah (Curtis) Brown and Diane (Jeff) Cole; eight grandchildren, Robert Gerald Springstead, Jane (Nick) Trahan, Paul (Andrew Walton) Springstead, David (Christa) Springstead, Jr., Ryan Brown, Justin Brown, Ethan (Charissa) Cole, and Anna Cole; two great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Barbara (Shade) Keller; and one granddaughter, Megan Brown.
Friends may call from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm Thursday, September 29, 2022, in the Pfeil Funeral Home, Sandusky Chapel, 617 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky. The funeral service will take place at 10:00 am Friday, September 30, 2022, in the funeral home with Pastor Diane Bell officiating. A private family committal service will take place at Oakland Cemetery, Sandusky.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 214 East Jefferson Street, Sandusky, Ohio 44870.
