Willie Lee Johnson

Willie Lee Johnson, 75, a beloved father, brother, uncle and friend, began his journey home on Tuesday, November 29, 2022.

He was the first child of eight children born to the late Willie Johnson, Jr and Osa Mae (Gross) Johnson on July 7, 1947 in Charleston, Mississippi.

Willie was baptized at an early age and attended Union Grove Baptist Church in Charleston.

Willie received his formal education in Charleston and later earned his General Equivalency Diploma (GED). After Willie moved to Detroit, Michigan, he met and married the late Mildred McClendon. To this union one child, Velvet, was born.

Willie was hired by the General Motors Corp. in Detroit as a laborer. He later transferred his employment to Sandusky, Ohio, where he retired after 25 years of service.

Willie had a passion for reading the newspaper, clothes, traveling, cars, and music. It is also safe to say that Willie loved to have a good time and also enjoyed eating well.

It is also important to note, Willie suffered a massive stroke that left him physically, but not mentally impaired. He continued to live his life well.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his loving and devoted daughter, Velvet (Sylvester) Mosley of New Hudson, Michigan, his siblings Flora Johnson of Charleston, Mississippi, Mae Greer of Detroit, Michigan, Helen (J.B.) House of Oakland, Mississippi, Anner (Chuck) Echols of Memphis, Tennessee, Daisy (Anthony) Jeffery of Detroit, Michigan, Shirley (Paul) Phillips of Memphis, Tennessee and a host of nephews and nieces and other relatives and friends. Willie was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Elnora (Willie) Love.

Friends may call on Monday, December 12, 2022, from 12 noon until time of funeral service at 1:00 pm at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E Perkins Ave, Sandusky, with Rev. Melvin Jackson presiding. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery, Sandusky, OH.
