Gary "GB" Butler

Gary "GB" Butler, 78, residing in Sandusky, passed away Friday morning, January 20, 2023 at Stein Hospice Care Center after a hard fought battle with Parkinson's disease.

Gary was born on May 19, 1944 in Ironton, OH to the late Clyde and Rosalia (Frische) Butler.

Gary was a 1962 graduate of Sandusky High School. He was a Veteran of the Air Force who proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. Gary was a Sergeant for the Erie County Sheriff's department, retiring after 30 years of service. He was a past member of the American Legion and a current member of the Orioles Club in Sandusky. Gary always loved football, and lived for the Cleveland Browns and Ohio State Buckeyes games. He also enjoyed golf, bowling, and going to the Casino with his wife.

Gary is survived by his wife, Kathy (Finley) Butler, whom he married on December 7, 2005 in Las Vegas. He is also survived by his son, Gary Allen (Tracy) Joiner of SC; two grandchildren, Aaron and Sierra; two sisters-in-law, Laura Butler of Middleburg Heights, OH and Anita Mickens of Sandusky; one niece, Karoline (Justin) Maciak of Olmsted Falls, OH; two nephews, Brent (Lori) Butler of CO and Brian Mickens of Fremont, OH; six great-nieces and great-nephews, Colton, Reese, Daniel, Andrew, Sammy and Trent; and numerous other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, Gary is preceded in death by his daughter, Cindy; brother, David Butler; mother-in-law, Lois Finley; and brother-in-law, Steve (Karen) Finley.

Friends may call on Thursday, January 26, 2023 from 4:00 pm until the time of memorial services at 6:00 pm at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E Perkins Ave, Sandusky. The Rev. Wally Gilbert will be presiding. Groff Funeral Homes and Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
