Richard Albert Chapman

Richard Albert Chapman, 95, of rural Clyde, died on Wednesday, January 25, 2023.

"Dick" was born on March 20, 1927 in Tiffin to the now deceased Ruth (Bailey) and Harry Chapman.

He joined the United States Army Airborne in June 1946. For his service, he received the Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal.

He retired from the Whirlpool Corp, following 39 years of service, in 1989.

On May 24, 1950, he married Joanne Kerlin. They lived in the same house in Clyde for sixty years! She survives. They were able to travel the US in their camper. He loved to tinker with wood and be a handyman. Never one to sit, Dick enjoyed yardwork and being outside.

Also surviving are children, Ralph (Susie) Chapman; John (Lolita) Chapman; Mike (Jamie) Chapman; Bill (Nancy) Chapman; Diane (Jeff) Stull; Jeanette (Jay) Cook; Rick (Amy) Chapman and former daughter-in-law, Norma Chapman. Twenty six grandchildren, 74 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren survive as well. Two brothers, Paul Chapman, Walter Chapman and a sister Frances Keiffer also survive.

Mr. Chapman was preceded in death by two sons, Richard Allen Chapman and Steven Lynn Chapman, along with siblings, Bob; Ross; Will; Kenny; Gladys Morrison; Betty Travis; Mary Wagenblast and Corabella Chapman.

Visitation will be on Sunday, January 29, 2023 from 2-4:00 pm at Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home 218 South main St., Clyde. The funeral will be on Monday, January 30,2023 at 10:30 am at the funeral home.

Burial, with military rites, will be held at Bakertown Cemetery immediately following the service.

Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be made to Alzheimer's, South Care Hospice or the School of Hope.
