Patti (Potts) Howell

Patti (Potts) Howell, 81, of Port Clinton passed away from pancreatic cancer on Sunday, February 26, 2023.

She was born on February 24, 1942, in Port Clinton, Ohio to Francis Edith (Cook) and Orthe Potts.

Patti graduated from Port Clinton High School in 1960. She married the love of her life, Emerson Howell, on July 8, 1961. They were married 59 wonderful years until his passing in 2020. She was a stay-at-home mom for many years while being involved with her children's activities such as Girl Scout leader, home room mother, little league, and other activities. Later in life, she went back to school to get her certificate to become a preschool teacher and worked for WSOS Headstart for over 20 years until she retired.

Patti was very active in her community, volunteering with Holiday Bureau, Joyful Connections and other non-profits. She and Emerson were very generous and would help anyone in need with food, clothing, or toys. Patti was a dedicated and active member of the Port Clinton Lion's Club for many years, earning the Melvin Jones Fellow Award for dedicated humanitarian services.

She and Emerson enjoyed traveling across the United States and visiting such places as National Parks, Alaska and Hawaii. In her younger years, Patti was active in bowling, golf leagues and gardening. Patti enjoyed getting together with her friends from High School for lunch right up until 2 weeks before she passed.

She is survived by her daughter, Teresa (Ronald Marcelino) Howell; son, Scott Howell; recently reunited son, Mike Brown; granddaughter, Wendy (Richard) Campbell; great grandsons, Cole and Joseph; sister-in-laws, Evelyn Johnson, Janet (Mike) Zelms, Joyce Howell; and many nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Delbert and Orthe Potts; sisters, Wilma Smith, Wanda NIckles, Doris Davis and Nola King.

Due to Covid, the family was unable to have services for Emerson when he passed. A Celebration of life for Patti and Emerson will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday April 15, at The Gypsum Community Church, South Lake Street at State Road, officiated by Reverend Roger Smith and Pastor Deron Fourman. A luncheon will be held afterwards at a location that will be announced at the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Port Clinton Bible Methodist Church, 150 Maple Street, Port Clinton, Ohio 43452 or The Gypsum Community Church, PO Box 120, Gypsum, Ohio 43433; for Gypsum building funds. Patti and Emerson grew up together in the Gypsum Community Church and Patti was a current member of the Port Clinton Bible Methodist Church.
