Edward J. Myers, Jr.

Edward J. Myers, Jr., age 75, of Norwalk, passed away Thursday, March 2, 2023, at Cleveland Metro Hospital.

He was born on November 23, 1947 in Sandusky, Ohio to the late Edward Myers, Sr and Lois (Beverick) Myers, and was a lifelong Norwalk resident.

He was a Norwalk High School Graduate, class of 1966, and was a veteran of the United States Air Force.

He met his wife of 49 years, Joyce (Day) Myers while working construction and later spent 19 years as an employee of the City of Norwalk and member of Laborers Local 480 Union, where he worked until retirement. However, his most coveted role was that of the local "Santa Claus" where his gregarious personality and larger than life laugh, natural white hair and beard, rosy cheeks and robust build touched many young lives during the Holiday Season. He was a proud supporter of the Norwalk Truckers sports teams as well as the Guardians and Browns and held a special place in his heart for The Ohio State Buckeyes. In his younger years he was an avid league bowler and played many a game in the local softball leagues. He was an active and dedicated member of the congregation at The Foundation Church in Norwalk, and formerly was a member at Norwalk United Methodist Church.

His absolute favorite thing to do was spend time with his family. He greatly looked forward to the annual summer family gatherings and activities centered around visits by his son from California. He especially enjoyed being a Grandfather and bragged about the accomplishments, big and small, of his grandkids to whoever would listen. He most recently became a Great-Grandfather for the first time. In addition to his immediate family, he was considered a friend, brother, uncle, father figure and mentor to many generations of local residents who were lucky enough to know him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward Myers, Sr and Lois (Beverick) Myers. Brother John Myers and Great-Niece Lily Myers.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Joyce (Day) Myers, Daughters, Marlie (Todd) Tanzillo, Cristi (Mike) McFadden and Son, Scott (Nada Grkinich) Myers. Grandchildren, Zachary (JoBeth Wyatt) Tanzillo, Wessley (Kayla) Tanzillo, Taylor (Brandon Owsley) Tanzillo, Ethan Tanzillo, Max Myers, Nila Grkinich-Myers, Cavan McFadden, Malia McFadden and Great-Granchild Flynn Owsley. Nephews John (Tabie) Myers, Jr and Nick Myers. Great-Nephews Jacob Myers, Preston Myers and Easton Myers.

A celebration of life gathering will be held Tuesday, March 7, 2023, from 3:00 until 5:00 P.M. at the Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk followed by a reception and dinner at The Foundation Church, Norwalk.

Memorial contributions can be made in his name to The Foundation Church or the Wounded Warriors Project or a charity of your choosing. Edward was a believer and gave the gift of life through organ and tissue donation.
