Leonard F.  Schaffer

Leonard F. Schaffer, a lifelong resident of the Norwalk, Ohio area, died on March 22, 2023, in Irving, Texas. He was 100 years old.

Leonard was born on April 3, 1922, in Peru, Ohio, to the late Leonard and Frances (Hohler) Schaffer.

He served his country as part of the United States Navy during WWII, and retired from General Motors in Sandusky, Ohio, in 1987. Leonard enjoyed gardening, farming, home projects, and riding around on his John Deere tractor. He was a member of the Norwalk V.F.W. Post 2743 and both St. Paul and St. Alphonsus Catholic Church.

Survivors include his children, Thomas (Connie) Schaffer of Irving, TX, Daniel (Rhonda) Schaffer of Novi, MI, and Andrea (Steve) Tien, of Southport, NC; 10 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; brother, Alex Schaffer, of Norwalk, OH; and son in-law, Thomas (Paula) Tracht, of Norwalk, OH.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 49 years, Margaret (Seitz) Schaffer, daughter, Connie Tracht, twin sister, Sister Francis Marie "Lucy" Schaffer, and 9 other siblings.

A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2023, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 1322 Settlement Rd., Norwalk, OH, beginning at 10 a.m. with Fr. John Christopher Jesudhason and Fr. Ron Schock officiating. Burial will follow the mass in St. Alphonsus Catholic Cemetery with military honors.
