Stanley Kellum Atkins, age 95, of Sandusky, Ohio passed away April 4, 2023.

He was born in Ethelsville, Alabama, September 20,1927, to Oakley and Juanita Atkins, the oldest of six children.

He enlisted in the US Army, stationed in New Orleans, Louisiana, where he met his wife, Betty, an Army nurse. After his Honorary Discharge from the US Army, they moved to Pennsylvania where he began his career with the Norfolk Southern Railroad as a signal maintainer. They lived in Charleroi, Pennsylvania until his retirement, then moved to Sandusky, Ohio to be near his daughter and grandson. He was a former member of the Sandusky United Methodist Church. He loved sports, especially football, his Steelers and Auburn Tigers. His other great joy was his grandson and great granddaughter.

He is survived by his son Kenneth Atkins of Sandusky, Ohio, his daughter Debra Atkins of Thousand Oaks, California, his grandson Christopher (Kendra) Atkins of Camarillo, California and his great-granddaughter Annabelle Atkins also of Camarillo. He is also survived by his sisters Nell Trapp and Barbara (Scott) Murrah both of Columbus, Mississippi, a brother Larry (Cammie) Atkins of Hoover, Alabama and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents Stanley was preceded in death by his wife Betty of Sandusky, Ohio, his son Richard of Washington DC, his brother Harold Atkins and sister Anne Harris both of Columbus, Mississippi.

At his request, cremation has taken place and there will be private family services for internment. Arrangements are being handled by Groff Funeral Home and Crematory Sandusky, Ohio.
