Sue Marie (Mackey) Brown

Sue Marie (Mackey) Brown, of Columbus; Lakeside; Huron and Otterbein Assisted Living (Lakeside), died peacefully on Monday, April 17th, 2023, surrounded by her children and family.

The eldest of two daughters, Sue was born on March 21st, 1934, in Indianapolis, and moved with her parents, Frederick (Fritz) and Elaine (Knisely) Mackey to Columbus, when her father was hired by The Ohio State University as a coach. The family lived in Grandview and Upper Arlington, and Sue and her younger sister, Lyn Patterson (McGuire) spent many hours running through Ohio Stadium while their father conducted practices. Naturally, Sue was an avid Buckeye fan all her life.

Sue attended Ohio Wesleyan University, where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma women's fraternity, before transferring to, and graduating from, the University of Miami, as a Broadcast major.

A lifelong jazz aficionado, music was a focal point of Sue's, surrounding herself with records and musician friends, and becoming a wealth of knowledge on the topic.

Sue loved many things about life - hiking in Old Man's and Mammoth caves; Paris; a cherished trip to New Orleans with her son and daughter-in-law; Native American art; Lake Erie; good food and wine; an amazing group of friends wherever she lived; and her children and grandchildren.

She will be remembered for her crackling intelligence; sense of humor and wit; and her ability to tell a wickedly funny joke.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents, and is survived by her sister; her three children - Michael Brown (Theresa) of Cleveland; Douglas Brown (Lori) of Sandusky; and Cynthia Brown Mathews (Rick Mathews) of Huron - and her three grandchildren - Grace and Ava Moser (Cynthia); and Zach Brown (Douglas).

The family is planning a Celebration of Life later this summer.
