George H. Dunlap, Jr.

George H. Dunlap, Jr., 70, of Huron passed away unexpectedly April 8, 2023, in the Firelands Regional Medical Center, Sandusky following a brief illness.

He was born February 24, 1953, in Sandusky and was a 1971 graduate of Sandusky High School.

Prior to retirement, George was employed by Mid-Ohio Sludge Management for many years, and prior to this he worked for Wikel Cement.

George was kind, outgoing, and always willing to lend a helping hand. Big Poppy (as his grandchildren called him) was well known for his amazing sense of humor and always enjoyed making people laugh. He was passionate about boating and took pride in his 1991 Formula powerboat. He was an avid muscle car fan and especially loved Ford Mustangs. Throughout his life, his hobbies included competitive powerboat racing and weightlifting. In the summers, you could find George at his Curran Street boathouse or cruising the shores of Lake Erie. In the winters, he enjoyed vacationing in Fort Myers Beach, Florida and watching the weather roll across Lake Erie from his favorite chair with his cat Lulu. Most of all, George loved time with his family, telling stories and jokes that will be shared in his memory for years to come.

He is survived by his wife of fifty years and love of his life, Robin S. (Smith) Dunlap; two sons, George H. (April) Dunlap, III and Kyle (Tara) Dunlap, both of Huron; four grandchildren, Ellie Manion, Elle Dunlap, Georgie Dunlap, IV, and Charlie Dunlap; nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George H. and Dolores (Kriemes) Dunlap, Sr.; two brothers, Terry Dunlap and one in infancy.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sandusky Maritime Museum, 125 Meigs Street, Sandusky, Ohio 44870.
