Anthony DeBlase

Anthony DeBlase, age 92 of Bellevue, passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at ProMedica Toledo Hospital. Anthony was born December 31, 1930, in Bellevue, the son of the late Angelo and Josephine (Luzio) DeBlase.

Anthony graduated from Bellevue High School in 1948. He served in the United States Navy from December 1950 to October 1954, spending some time on the aircraft carrier Franklin Roosevelt. For his service he received the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Medal. Upon returning home he went to work at Whirlpool in Clyde for nearly 40 years, retiring on January 1, 1993. For a time, he also had his own appliance repair business.

Anthony was quite a talented handyman. He was very proficient as an electrician, plumber, auto mechanic, and woodworker. He worked with his brothers and other people on building new houses, including his own, while also helping with their repairs. The amount and variety of tools and equipment that were recently sold at his estate sale reflected those talents.

Anthony loved trains, especially the steam engines that he grew up around while living on Monroe Street as a kid. Like his wife Mary, he was a fan of state and local amateur sports teams, as well as the Browns and Indians. And he always enjoyed the athletic events and all activities of his children and grandchildren. Christmas was always his favorite time of the year, and he enjoyed going to family and high school class reunions.

Anthony was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Bellevue. He was also a member of the Club Amer-Ital in Bellevue and served as recording secretary for a time.

Anthony is survived by his children: Michael (Doreen) DeBlase of Bellevue, Anthony (Darlene) DeBlase of Bellevue, and Lisa (Rick) Novitski of Fremont; grandchildren: Emily (Dan) Freitag, Anne Bogner, Phillip (Lydia) DeBlase, Jeff (Krista) DeBlase, Natashia (Trevor) Trimble, Dominic (Azarielle Brown) DeBlase, and Nick (Emily) Novitski; 14 great-grandchildren with another due in the fall; brothers: Frank, Joe, and Sam DeBlase of Bellevue; sister, Angie Schlett of Bellevue; sister-in-law, Joanne Soldano of Bellevue; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Anthony is preceded in death by his wife, Mary (Colussi) DeBlase, whom he married May 30, 1955, at St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Sandusky, and son, Mark DeBlase.

Friends will be received on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 from 9 - 10:30 a.m. at Foos & Foos Funeral Service, 151 Yorkshire Place, Bellevue. A funeral Mass will begin at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 231 E. Center Street, Bellevue. Burial will follow at Bellevue Catholic Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
