Herman E. "Pops" McCreary

Herman E. "Pops" McCreary, age 88, of Norwalk, passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 17, 2023 at his residence, surrounded by his family.

Herm was born November 26, 1934 in Vermilion, OH to the late Raymond and Elizabeth (Leidheiser) McCreary.

He served in the National Guard and was a patrolman for many years with the State Highway Patrol. Herm and his brother, William owned Mac's Sons Construction. He was also a dairy farmer and pickle farmer, Solid Waste Coordinator for Huron County, and owned the Skitter Brae Custom Furniture Shop.

He was a past Master of the Mount Vernon Lodge Norwalk #64, Firelands, Ottawa and Tiffin Shrine Clubs, Valley of the Firelands Scottish Rite, Royal Order of Scotland, British American Club, The English Speaking Union, Blanchard Valley Council No. 221 Allied Masonic Degrees, Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of Ohio Huron Chapter #7, Grand Council Royal and Select Masons of Ohio Norwalk Council #23, A.A.S.R. Northern Masonic Jurisdiction Toledo 32nd, Norwalk Commandery No. 18 Knights Templar and Royal Order of Jesters Courts #14 and #21. He was also a member of the Norwalk Elks Lodge #730 and past member of the Hermit Club in Cleveland.

He is survived by his beloved children, Raymond (Peggy) McCreary of Norwalk, Desiree (Tom) Gilbert of Norwalk, and Rosalynn (Aaron) Campbell of Berlin Heights; grandchildren, Keith Gilbert, Raymond McCreary II, Katherine Suvar, Samantha Ramos, Parker Campbell and Elizabeth Campbell; great-grandchildren, Avigale Gilbert, Raymond Israel McCreary, Jeremiah McCreary, Declan Ramos, Milo Suvar, Zachary Moore, and one great grandson Ramos due in June 2023; and numerous nieces and nephews; and beloved and faithful sheltie, Gabe and his six cats.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, "Lady" Carol Ann McCreary in 2019, and brothers, William (Faye) McCreary and Kenneth (Opal) McCreary

A celebration of life service for Herm and Lady Carol will be held Saturday, June 3, 2023 at 2:00 P.M. at the Farm. Arrangements entrusted to the Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk. Memorial contributions may be sent to Huron County Humane Society, 246 Woodlawn Avenue, Norwalk, OH 44857.
