Thomas D. "Cal" McAllister

Thomas D. "Cal" McAllister, 75, of Sandusky passed away unexpectedly Thursday, May 18, 2023, at his residence.

He was born February 16, 1948, in Sandusky, Ohio.

He graduated from Perkins High School in 1966 and then attended Northwood Institute in Midland, Michigan. Tom was most recently employed as a baker at The Donut House and Smith's Bakery, but he also worked at the Houston Post and resorts in New England early in his life.

He was proud of his American Indian heritage and was a member of the Pawnee Nation of Oklahoma.

Tom's hobbies included word puzzles and reading westerns and books about aviation and military history. He was an avid fan of NASCAR, sprint car, supermodified and Indycar racing. He traveled the country to watch races; worked on the pit crew of a sprint car team; and for a time worked at the Sandusky Speedway.

He is survived by his brother, Charles (Diana) McAllister, Jr., Cape Coral, FL, and sister, Margaret "Peggy" (Howard) Reinbolt, Sandusky, OH; three nieces, Carrie (Charles) Porter, Castalia, OH, Lorrie McAllister, Phoenix, AZ, and Carla McAllister, Cape Coral, FL; three grand nephews and nieces, Andrew Smith, Sandusky, OH, Brooks McAllister, Kansas City, MO, and Harriet McAllister, Phoenix, AZ.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mary (Schaeffer) McAllister, Sr.

At the request of the deceased, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held for Tom on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at 11:00 AM, at St. John's United Church of Christ, 2712 Mason Road, Oxford Township, Milan. All are welcome. Friends and family may call prior to the memorial service at 10:00 AM at the Church. Rev. Wendy Schindler-Chasney will officiate. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.
