Suzanne "Susie" E. (Frizzell) Searls

Suzanne "Susie" E. (Frizzell) Searls (84) of Norwalk, passed away Friday morning, May 19, 2023, at Fisher Titus Medical Center after a valiant battle against cancer.

Susie was born March 27, 1939, in Ashland, Ohio to the late Ralph and Ruth (Phillips) Frizzell.

She grew up in Nova and spent her youth helping her father deliver groceries from his store. Susie graduated from Ruggles-Troy High School in 1957. She married C. Dale Searls on September 6, 1958. After her daughters were all in school, she worked for Hergetts Western Store until it closed. She then went to work for Hammer-Huber's Shoes for 30 years until she retired.

Susie was an active member of the Ohio Fast Draw Association for 63 years. She was an elected officer in the Association multiple times. Susie won the ladies state championship numerous times and was a champion in several other states as well. She admired Annie Oakley and was a female sharpshooter in her own right.

Susie enjoyed needlework. She learned to knit, crochet, and embroider despite being left-handed and eventually took up quilting. After her retirement she began quilting in earnest and joined the Huron Valley Quilters Guild. She volunteered for the Quilts of Valor, making lap quilts for veterans. Every quilt she made was stitched with love.

Susie is survived by her husband of 64 years, C. Dale Searls of Norwalk; 3 daughters, Dalene (Jerrold) Tiers of St. Louis, Missouri, Cynthia Howells of Norwalk, and Dawna Cooper (Brian Braden) of Wakeman.; 4 grandchildren Jason (Angela) Nickles, Steffani (Cody) Phillips, and Justin (Ashley) Cooper all of Norwalk, and Jessica Cooper of Toledo; 11 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-granddaughter; sister, Sara Kleihauer of Cookeville, Tennessee; brother, Phillip (Sandy) Frizzell of Ashland. She was a cousin, aunt, great-aunt, and friend to many.

She was preceded in death by her parents, grandson, Travis Cooper, and great-granddaughter, Jaiden Raistrick.

A celebration of life will be held Sunday, July 9, 2023, from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at the Norwalk Eagles #711, 151 Cline Street, Norwalk, Ohio.
