Walter H. Bauman

Walter H. Bauman, 92, of Sandusky passed away peacefully Saturday, August 5, 2023, in the Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky.

He was born on January 18, 1931, in Norwalk, Ohio and was a graduate of Norwalk High School.

He was a graduate of Miami University where he earned both his bachelor's and master's degree. Walter retired after thirty years of teaching at Jackson Junior High. He was a hard worker and painted homes when he wasn't teaching. Following retirement, he spent ten years working for the former Stambaugh's. Walter was kind, generous, and genuinely cared about people.

He spent much of free time serving his community by doing kind gestures such as visiting nursing home residents, starting Sunday school classes for developmentally challenged children, taking those with no rides wherever they needed to go, just to name a few. When he wasn't serving others, he found tranquility fishing on the pier, woodworking, painting pictures, and ceramics.

He was a member of the Gideon organization, a 40-year member of Perseverance Lodge No. 329, F. & A.M., serving as Master in 2012, Sandusky City Chapter No. 72 R.A.M., Sandusky City Council No. 26 R. & S.M., Erie Commandery No. 23 K.T., and the Singara Grotto. Walter was a lifelong member of the former St. Paul Lutheran Church and just recently became a member of Faith Church.

He is survived by his four children, Michael (Cherie) Bauman, Jennifer (Jack) Bauman, Mary Bauman, all of Sandusky, and Heidi (Joe) Fliehman of Indiana; ten grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren; and one niece, Mary Thole.

He was preceded in death by his wife Nancy Bauman in 2010; one son, John Bauman in 2010; parents, Hans and Friederike (Mayer) Bauman; and siblings, Irwin Bauman, George Bauman, and Johanna Meyer.

Friends may call Friday, August 11, 2023, from 11:30 am until the time of Masonic services at 12:00 pm in the Faith Church, 1320 E. Strub Road, Sandusky, Ohio 44870. The memorial service will immediately follow. Pastors Tom Groot and Ken Hiser will officiate. Inurnment committal services for the family will be held at Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
